Rome was a empire that was respected, by all other empires and kingdoms, back in ancient times. It had an incredibly strong military force, strong political system and a population who knew its place in society. These characteristics can be seen in the United States today. The population of both the United States and the Roman Empire have striking similarities. It appears that both the population of the United States and of the Roman Empire were obsessed with wealth and each individual person wanted to be viewed higher than their peers. The fact that both populations are obsessed with wealth can be seen in the way the Roman troops raided conquered land and the Roman youth and United States youth undervalue what they posses. Finally, it is easily seen that the Roman and American populations wanted to be viewed higher than their peers in the way they constructed their houses and buildings, and how they frivolously spent money. The citizens of Rome loved money, but as the Republic appro ached its end, they became obsessed with wealth. A man of the name of Sulla used force and led an army to take back the government. When he had successfully taken over the government, his troops began to raid houses and land. At this time, the citizens of Rome had viewed wealth as a symbol of power. People wanted more and more wealth. This theme was not only common with adults, but shared among children and young men began to have the same values.
